Would you please pray with me for the state of Maine on Sunday, November 1, between the hours of 3:31 PM and 4:31 PM?
As you know, in Romans we are told that the civil magistrate is a minister of God and is to be a minister of justice and a terror to evildoers. We have allowed the election of leaders who have instead passed laws which fly in the face of God’s Law and supports evildoers.
But this judgment is a judgment on his people. On this Lord’s day, we plan to claim God’s promise that if his people who are called by his name humble themselves and pray and seek his face he will heal their land. In many ways our land in the state of Maine is broken, sick and diseased. We will humbly seek God’s face, repent of our sins, and ask God to heal our land.
Christians across the State are asked to come together and pray for the state of Maine. This is a statewide prayer meeting that will take place during the final hour of daylight on this Lord’s day, Sunday, November 1, 2009. We will pray from 3:31 PM to 4:31 PM.
If you’d like together with other believers, we will be meeting to join hands to encircle all physical representations of the civil magistrate, including the major civic centers, city and town halls, and courthouses across the state. If we don’t have enough people at a given location to completely encircle the building, we will simply gather in a group outside and pray. Or, folks can meet in their church buildings, homes, or simply pray alone.
We have set up a special website, “handsaroundmaine.org”, for people to register and indicate that they will be leading prayer at a particular location near them. In addition, Pastors and Leaders have composed a sample prayer to help lead us all together in a united voice crying out to our Lord in humble petition.
You’ll also find on the website downloadable promotional material, including a bulletin insert, posters and an e-mail template. We would appreciate it if you would take a moment right now to go to the website, copy and paste the E-mail template, and mail it off to your friends to give them advance notice of this event. Ask them to spread the word.
